We stayed gone all day, just enjoying Austin, and it was so fun. We didn't even get to everything on our list! However, the things we did do were fun and enjoyable. Austin has so much to offer, on any day you want to spend in the city...
First, we started off with Malone Coffee, one my husband's favorite coffee trucks. I think it's cute, but I don't drink coffee. It was already close to lunch time, so we chose Home Slice of of 53rd Street because we read on line that their patio has fans/misters - much needed in August! It's really cool eclectic restaurant, and we shared a pizza and a salad. Both were delicious, and we sat near the street and admired the old homes in the area.
I wanted to browse through Uptown Modern, down on Burnet Road, so we did. It's a furniture/home decor store with most things being from the 60's decade - all of which are so pretty - and they have unique things. We just walked around and looked.
Next, it was on to Pease Park to see the new renovations we had read about. And to take a walk. Wow, they've added several features, all industrial type railings and walkways, cool bathrooms, a huge metal dome and a water splash area, and more. The trail there is great, so we walked and talked.
We wanted to make it on south to Menchaca Road to Captain Quackenbush's bakery where a pop up market was taking place. We looked at the booths (bought homemade pickles!) and went inside the coffeehouse/bakery where Jon got a tea and a cookie to go. We saw that they have a state inside for music, so we'd like to go back!
We were meeting up in a bit with friends, but we had time for another stop at a store in Westgate Mall called Back Home. It's a fine furnishings store with lots to see, but wow - their candles - they carry my favorite brand Paddywax, so we bought one of the tobacco scented ones.
A great meetup place is the Central Market in S Austin, where you can sit in a booth and visit, and grab a bite, or not. We did just that with our friends, and then saw a movie there in Westgate Cinema - VERY roomy and new and comfy seats.
It was a fun day, and we didn't even get to the citywide garage sale at Palmer Auditorium...maybe tomorrow.
