Less Than an Hour Away

We just decided the day before to take a day trip the next day and not to travel far, and just see where we ended up. We did look at a map and chose a few towns, even though we'd traveled them before, and we were excited to go. Sometimes, you just need a little day trip!

There's a new coffee shop in Round Rock called Coffee Enlightenment and we stopped there, first. Jon says it's his new favorite coffee - and the place is gorgeous inside. We've already been back!

Just up the road off I-35 behind Velvet Taco, we spotted a farmers market and scored several things there - some plants, a four pack of sourdough mini loaves (genius idea!), and I found the cutest handmade in Mexico sandals for spring. Visit this market - on Saturday mornings!

We decided to start in Jarrell, just to drive around and see if anything new was there. Next time, I want to stop at their meat market. But this time, it was almost lunch time so we opted for El Pitayo (It means the cactus) and we were not disappointed. It's a cute place right on the highway and the tortilla soup - superb!

Across the other side of the highway we hit Schwertner - a tiny spot of a town with only one store open - an antique store only open on Saturdays. There we visited with a local and I found the cutest vintage tiny pitcher with a sailboat etched in the glass.
Down the road was Bartlett, and we found a cool mural and a ghost sign (see top of page) "Beech Nut Sliced Bacon" that made us curious. When and what? So we looked it up - an interesting read about how bacon became a breakfast staple! There were also a couple of pretty churches with high front steps, and this gorgeous community center - once a high school.

Back to Georgetown, we opted for a game of mini golf at Centex Mini Golf - have you been there? It's just a simple course under big trees, and they sell freshly popped popcorn too! That was a fun outing (and I won by 2 points!)

We ended the afternoon by driving through the Rivery and went in the Poppy store, where we found some great candles to bring home and light for our restful evening, enjoying some of that sourdough bread and some snacks.

On the road again, and it sure was fun, even less than an hour away...
