We had been to Granbury years and years ago...but only briefly. This time we stayed three days...and a little more.
Day one we headed to this town about 3 hours north of Austin and arrived in time for a late breakfast/early lunch at Paradise Bistro right downtown on the square. We ate outside, and it was the best! Granbury is the cutest town.
We had time for the old jail tour just off the square, before we checked in to the Inn on Lake Granbury...a luxury stay on the lake . It's just beautiful, and there are multiple places to enjoy the outdoors, in a hammock, sitting in chairs by the water, down by the dock, or around the pool lined with lush plants that were blooming profusely . And our cottage was amazing.
That night we enjoyed a movie outdoors in the newly renovated Brazos Drive In - so cute! Red metal chairs next to a diner-like concession house, while we enjoyed the new Planet of the Apes movie with frito pie and popcorn!
Saturday we were delivered the best breakfast to eat on our patio. We then explored downtown and also headed to the cemetery outside of town where a historical event was taking place...with Texas history and food and music. The downtown shops and eateries in Granbury are the most fun. And at the event, we enjoyed Texas bread - pan de campo - cooked over an open fire.
This Saturday evening we had tickets to the Granbury Opera House to see The Diary of Anne Frank play. We dressed up and enjoyed an Italian dinner at Farina's before the play. It was such a perfect evening and the town was only a few steps away from our cottage door.
Sunday morning we went to the beach in Granbury on the lake, and we rented a surrey. Although the tires went flat, we had a good time!
We had ordered a picnic from the Inn to be delivered, and we enjoyed it down by the dock. It was the cutest basket full of a four-course meal!
Some friends who live nearby showed up for a visit and we ate German food for dinner, then sat in the chairs by the lake until the sun set....beautiful.
Monday was our last day at the Inn, and again we had a great breakfast...this time by the pool.
We packed up to leave and headed to a little town called Tolar, to see a windmill farm.
And we also stopped in Glen Rose, another cute town, to shop and stroll their park.
The weekend couldn't have been better, and the place we stayed was really the best.
